It is excellant idea to discuss community related issue with a group members. It will educate our new generation about the rich cultural heritage of Gaddies.

Recently I had been to palampur I was overwhelmed to see a group of four kids aged 3-5 years singing songs of “Sabu Bharmouri” . I remember in my childhood I used to sing ” aane se uske aayi bahar”. I salute the deadicated gaddi individuals such as Rumail Singh, Suresh Sharma, Sunil Rana and so many other people for bringing out CD on original gaddi songs and songs on nuwala in very classical and original forms that our kids of 21st century prefer our original songs to hindi or pop music. This development is indication of cultural rejuvenation for gaddies.

  2. Uttam Singh Says:

    Thanks!Team Gabdika.

  3. Ratan Pahl Says:

A monthly Magazine Him Shrinkhala on Gaddi issues is being published by Shri Sundar Lal from Lahnga, Palampur. To my opinion, it is a very good cause which we should encourage by way of becoming member for a year for Rs. 200/-. If you are interested complimentary copies are also available with me at my Delhi residence. The membership can be subscribed from Palampur only.

We have been (now under JGVS) publishing Gabdika an annual Magazine on the subject since 1995. We were planning to start a newsletter on monthly basis. We as a Team Gabdika have also been discussing the Gaddi issues through net for a quite some time. We may wait for a while, defer our plan to publish news letter, watch the activities of the Him Shrinkhala and contribute something for the up liftment of the society. Shri Sundar has sought my opinion to improve the Magazine. I suggested to include following features for at least one page each on
    • schedule of admission in educational institutes well in advance;
    • schedule of employment opportunities in government as well as in private sector;
    • profiling of Gaddi problems and suggestion to solve the problems;
    • profiling of Gaddi talent;
    • views on rich values & social evils and
    • matrimonial I also suggested making it impartial and discouraging glorifying or criticizing politicians. Your views are solicited please.

  4. Pradhan Singh Says:

I congratulate Sh. Sunder Lal Ji and his team for making it possible to bring out Monthly magazine ” Him Shrinkhala’ exclusively on our community. Going forward it will generate valuable literature on our community. Sugestion made by Pahl Bhai are worth to incorporate in the forthcoming issues.

  5. Rattan Pahl Says:

There is no discussion on the net these days.
I think we are feeling free in Independent India.
    So celebrate Independence.

    A very-2 Happy Independence Day

  6. Ajit Kapoor Says:

Hearty wishes to Him Shrinkhala patrika and the Team Gabdika on The Independence Day!
The cultural rejuvenation and suggestions made by Rattan bhai towards Him Shrinkhala are positive signs for our community as a whole.
It would be worth remembering our community forefathers who worked for INA (Indian National Army) and sharing the mention of any freedom fighters from our community.
Let the gaddi spirit break free again in the airs of India and World! !

  7. Ratan Pahl Says:

    Dear Gabdika Helpdesk

I think more and more Gaddi people are interested in knowing about our culture, values, past and very much want to know about our future plans. But mostly are well conversant with the Hindi. Is there any system available with us if we also write some pages in Hindi about ourselves in the Gabdika.com

A very long time back, I was very much surprised that the Gaddis of J&K were very much interested in associating with our Gaddi Samiti in Delhi. I have tried to contact them and sent some of them invitation to participate in our cultural events at Delhi. They still enjoy the same enthuaisim and eagerness to associate themselves with Gaddis populace elsewhere.

They really deserve appreciation. They are most welcome. Kindly keep interacting and share about culture, customs and other rituals.

  24. Pradhan Singh Says:

Sabi gaddi bhai jo mera sadar pranam… ye huni kari bada ashcharya buha ki 2.5 lakhs gaddi bhai sirf jammu manj rahende hin.. it is a breaking news for me.

I think i have no better instance of faulty education system we followed that focus more on what lies in the rocks of moon, how far our heavenly bodies are located and knowledge about atoms and cells etc. But none of our books throw any light on origin, cultural development, migration on a relatively small community of our self. How can are we expected to know about others while we have no reliable information about our own self. Atleast now interested individuals/ groups/ associations may earnestly put forth collective hands to generate reliable , authentic and original information about the history and cultural developments of our community.

  25. Shash Pal Singh Says:

Mr. Sanjay…… You being the Publicity Secretary of “ALL J&K GADDI SIPPI TRIBES WELFARE SOCIETY/ASSOCIATION” doing good job. I am from Bhadarwah and know Prof. B.P.Singh and Mr. Parveen Kumar very well. I always read the press conferences of Gaddi Assosciation. Please remain in touch with our Gaddi brothers of HP and lets represent at the national level. U can contact me for any techinical support and we all can jointly demonstrate technically in this hi-tech era. Best wishes to all.

  26. Rahul Says:

    Dear All,
Its heartening to see the responses from different spheres… we really covered a good distance. Its motivating for the Team, specially Ajit Bhai, at the same time it provides us new dimensions, challenges & opportunities to look forward and achieve the next level. I mean, people now know what http://www.gabdika.com is and next level should be what gabdika.com can do.

Hence, i request all of you to give suggestions on the roles Gaddi’s and Gabdika can play in the following areas :
    a) Social development of Gaddi’s
    b) Economic Concerns of Gaddi habitats
    c) Educational & health reforms

Gabdika team is looking for your fruitful suggestions…

    For Team gabdika
    Rahul

  27. Shash Pal Singh Says:

It is humbly requested to the Gabdika Team to cover a servey poll on the webpage regarding actual place of residence of the Gaddis in different part of the country as has been done with regard to spending the grazing time at present home page……… this will also project the actual number of visitors on gabdika and its impact on the visitrs….. i beg your pardon, but two such polls are suggested which poll should be like as follows:-

Poll-A: I am a Gaddi and am a resident of by Birth:

    1. HP State 2. J&K State 3. Other (Specify)

Poll-B: I am a Gaddi and am resident of:

    1. Barmour (HP), 2. Chamba (HP), 3. Kangra (HP), 4. Dharamshalla (HP) 5. Bhadarwah (J&K) 6. Bani-Basholi (J&K), 7. Billowar-Hiranagar (J&K) 8. Ramnagar-Chenani (J&K) 9. Doda-Ramban (J&K) 10. Others (Specify)

I hope the Gabdika Team has got the purpose what i want..

    With regards and thanks……

  30. Ajit Kapoor Says:

Feels great to read these blogs about our community. Kudos to all.

Good to know from Rattan bhai that there has been efforts for together participation of gaddis in J&K and in HP at Delhi. Its encouraging.

Pradhan bhai pointed rightly. Our education system should show light on origin, cultural development, migration of a relatively small communities like that of ours. We read mostly about varn-varg and less about unifying communities and its people. Some serious academic research should be done to know the exact population, dwellings and linkage of past origins for such communities.

Nice to know that Sanjay Kumar and his affiliations are doing good work in Udhampur and surroundings. Would like to add about Rahul that he is among the pioneers in gabdika.com endeavor.

Per Shash Pal’s suggestion please find the survey polls added to home page, prior survey is moved to occupations page. Though majority of our population still don’t have access to internet, this initiative will surely create interest for visitors in general!!

Need is also to have some scientific base and academic research as we historically trans-humane gaddis are scattered and lack collective community data. Using these community forums we share our common origin, ways of life and feeling of togetherness.

    Regards
    Ajit

  32. Shash Pal Singh Says:

Bundles of thanks to the Gabdika Team….. the suggestion of poll regarding habitation of the Gaddis was conceded… Thanks a lot… It is fully agreed that this kind of moves can create the intrest in general… It is the admitted fact that most of the persons of our Gaddi community are not computer literate, but visitors have been found sharing their view and opnions about their place of residence, customs, etc….. which i thought is the greatest attraction of the visitors…… Surely this kind of moves can unite the community members together and give a platform of common voice and opinion…… Once again on the behalf of Gaddi Community Members i again thank the Gabdika Team in general and Respected Mr. Ajit in paricular….

    Well Done Miss Reeta,
You are the first female representative on Gabdika Community. Since now a days male and female are treated equal so this should be practically implemented in our Gaddi Community as well and I request the Gabdika Team on behalf of our female Gaddi members to have some initiative for the “Women Folk” of Gaddi Community on the web page which will creat intrest and curiosity in Gaddi Women (Gaddens) for visiting and having access on the webpage which will ultimately result into spread of knowledge and awareness of the internet and popularity and publicity of Gabdika in this gender-free era of hi-tech.
Dear Miss Reeta your name on the web page will surely become the inspiration for our Gaddi Women Folk and will encourage them for sharing their common opinion on the platform that Gabdika Team have gifted to our neglected community. Thanks and keep it up.

    it,s a great pleasure for me i m here
myself RAJESH BARSAIN FROM BAIJNATH DIS KANGRA FINAL YEAR MECHANICAL ENGG STUDENT.I really appretiate the work of pepole who is behind this innovative work. It,s a great paltform for gaddis to discuss the direct or indirect issues of our present senario in himachal, india as well as in world why i m using world because we people (means shepherds) are all over the world.
if u are search the different web site around you ,you will able to find out shepherding is one of the oldest profession of the world and word profession take a birth with shepherding.THE great example is in front of us might be you are aware of that barack hussain obama president of america is a son of shepherd whoes father doing the shepherding in keneya.Be have prove ourself not only in himachal but also across the world apart from that be have with the tradition, culture, language and territory. We have a strong history

BUT STILL WE ARE NOT GETTING THAT MUCH OF RESPECT WHAT WE WANT EXACTLY .I M ONLY CONVEY A MESSAGE TO OUR YOUNG GENERATION COME FORWARD AND PROVE YOURSELF AND SAY PROUDLY WE ARE THE GADDIS THAT’S IT BECAUSE
    PROFESSIONALISM
    LEADERSHIP AND
    BUSINESS
THESE THREE THING IS IN OUR BOOLD
    (barsain_rajesh@yahoo.com contact no.9021734639)

  40. Pradhan Singh Says:

Gabdika came into being by the SELFLESS efforts of those who shifted out of the gaddi cultural sphere due to the urgency of livehood and career. They felt not only lonely but also realised the superiority of our own cultural value the time they tried to mix up with other cultures of the world. Self Respect and Identity are most valuable intangible assets that everyone will realise sooner or later.

Some time back Gabdika team had realised that the younger elements of our generation especially the school and college goer are overoccupied with their own priorites of life and they may be least concerned and may not contribute much for the objective we have spelt out for ourself. But the comments of Mr Rajesh has prooved us wrong and tons of thanks for the same.

Gabdika is merely a initiative and not a destination. It is a collective wisdom to keep alive the burning fire of honesty, sincerety, brotherhood, hardwork and so many other virtues we gaddies are known for. It is my understanding that while modernising ourself we must also keep alive the essence of our culture. That itself will generate tremendous amount of positive energy in us . Sharing this energy with other like minded people will further increase the energy. We have no preset targets to achive the collective energy of minds will take care of the targets.

    Pranam to all Gaddi Brothers….
I am back again with a piece of suggestion for the perusal of Gabdika Team…… This has the reference to Rahul’s (Gabdika Team Member) post dated 9th Feb. 2010 where under suggestions were solicited about some issues pertaining to the welfare of Gaddis…… So it is humbly requested to incorpate 2-section on the webpage regarding the Education and second regarding Career and counselling that can benefit our unemployed Gaddi youth…… I believe that majority of our educated youth require proper guidance as lack of information render them helpless…………. Now it is admitted fact that the Gabdika webpage has gained some publicity among the community members and I think it can serve the better purpose……
Further from the preliminary analysis of profile of our representatives it reveals that they have attained the distinguished positions in their professional life and have been settled across India. Majority of them have been found posting their comments on Blog where they have shown their gesture for joint contribution for upliftment of Gaddis……. so it is my humble request to all our Gaddi brothers to help the Gabdika Team the way they can and to the extent they can, for guiding our Gaddi educated unemployed youth for their better career and future……

  49. Rajesh barsain Says:

Hi this is rajesh barsain my last intraction is regarding self respect and i m strecting this conversation with DIGNITY,HONOR AND PRIDE these three are required for any community in society but it’s difficult to said like that our community still don’t have these three in society and it is a reality .I don’t know why people of our community using different surnames for example rana, thakur, chouhan, chadha, jaryal, bharadwaj, kapoor, sharma and many more.I m asking a simple question to all of u who we r exactly i believe nobody know because we people use surname according to our comfort zone not acc to our community we loose our naturality than why society will going to provide you a self respect ,dignity ,pride and honor .Firstly community will identified frm the surname and this is the univesal truth but we don’t know exactly who we r and person knows those persons will not do such sort of foolish things.I belive the himachali gaddis manly divided into two streams first one is gaddi rajputs and 2nd one is gaddi bhhat bharmin so for rajputs use only one surname rajput and for bhhat bharmins use only bhhat.I don’t know how many of you will follow this but we need a one reliable surname that is for rajputs only ratput and for bhhat brahmin only hhhat is their because we need it desperatly so plz don’t use any thing by loosing your naturality use either bhhat or rajput

  50. desh raj jaryal Says:

    DEAR AJIT BHAI,
THANK U VERY MUCH FOR YOUR APPERICIATION.ALL THIS HAS HAPPEND WITH UR EXTREAM EFFORTS WHICH YOU HAVE PUT TO CONNECT WITH THE PEOPLE OF COMMUNITY.I AGAIN EXTEND MY DEEPEST REGARDS TO U AND YOUR RESPECTIVE TEAM MEMBERS.
RAJESH JI HAS RIGHTY SAID ABOUT THE SERNAME ISSUE .BUT THEIR ARE CHANGRU PEOPLE IN HIMACHAL WHO USE THE SURNAME RAJPUT.SO I WOULD SUGGEST IF WE COULD USE ONLY THE WORD GADDI THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING DIFFRENT AND UNIQE.

    REGARDS TO ALL .

Ram Ram to all Gaddi Brothers (from Bhadarwah J&K)

Rajesh Barsian has rightly pointed out the issue of surname. Let me share my personal experience….. when i visited the community webpage i found across various members with different surnames as pointed out by Rajesh and was confused a little bit that whether these persons are actual Gaddis or not…… Offcourse i am not questioning the identity of all respected fellows but here comes the identity of GADDIS for which we are striving hard……. Let be the Gaddis and not a Rajput Gaddi, Bhat Gaddi or whatever else…….. Lets be Gaddi and feel proud to be so……. SECONDLY brove! to Mr. Ajay who has came forward with career opportunities but dear Ajay it will be highly appreciatable if you do forward your detailed delibrations to Gabdika Team for transparent guidance to the Gaddi youth through this website….. hopefully the Gabdika Team will not back-down from this initiative for the unemployed Gaddi youths…..

    Regard to all

  54. rajesh barsain Says:

hi,today i m going to talk about our resources
1.land2.old heritage and culture 3.tarditional music and dresses
these are our resources and all these three are connected with the employment of our gaddi people how.
my first point of consideration is our land .we people have enough land and it has a great potential to produce a better quality of apple and dry fruits especially in distric chamba and all of you know the market value of apple and dry fruits in todays senario but still we are not able to exploit our land and the reson behind this thing is anawareness of facts no doubt our gaddi people are hard working but those particular people need a proper guidance and direction and it’s a responsibility of our top rated family members to provide a specific help to them and once when these gaddi bhais start clicking it will produce a huge employment and a great reward in terems of money because money matters

    2. my 2nd point of consideration is our old heritage and culture .we have with some great traditional dresses like (nawachari, chola, dora) as well as some typical gaddi ornaments. now if we establish a market in himachal especially in tourism areas where these traditional dresses and ornaments are available than definately we can produce a great empolyment meanwhile we can able to explore our culture not only in himachal predesh but accross the world

3.my third point of consideration is our gaddi music. we have with a very fine lyrics allmost endless lyrics and this music industry is emerging industry in himachal but still we can’t exploit it properly eventhough the person from the different castes for exmple karnal rana he not a gaddi but use gaddi lyrics in his albums and make huge profit than why should not be , it’s our tradition ,it’s our heritage but the employment and profit is not our it’s for somebody other our people searching for jobs here and there but they don’t know the opportunity lies in there own home .we have no need to go here nad there just focusing on how tho explore it .

    4. my 4th point of cosideration is tourism and we have a land which has a great potential to produce a great employment in tourism industry. but still we are lacking and the reson behind this thing is the person who are reache on the top level will not give there 100% to community meanwhile we need there 100%

so if we take all these four points collectively than one can say that
we have a resources but unfortunately we are not able to exploit it completely and this is the main resons still our people lacking in education, unable to raise there leaving standard, and affarid to say proudly we are gaddis.
this site is awesome platform but it is not enough to transfoming quality traditional gaddis to quality futuristic gaddis . we have to go a long way and we need some desperate persons who acquire a top level seats . we need there direction and guidance for the transformation of our people

    Dear Team Gabdika !
Well done for all you doing for the community. It is a good start and an unquinchable faith in your mission shall lead you to the happiness and prosperity of the whole Gaddi community.
I have a little suggestion regarding start of a reward/award scheme by your organisation for Panchyat level leaders in heavily populated Gaddi areas for their extra ordinary work for the development of gaddi people or for their panchyats. This shall not only encourage them for future course of action but also make a paradigm shift in the thought of local or panchyat level leaders for needfull reforms in their working style.
This in turn shall lift the people of Gaddi community to some higher level.
It is pertinent to mention here that the political reforms or good leadership may easily take the Gaddi people towards a kind of feel good factor.

Feel free to share views on above.

First of all I extend the invitation to Gaddi community members from J&K State as has already been flashed above by Pub. Secondly kind attention of Gabdika Team is invited towards the detailed delibrations posted by Mr. Rajesh Bairsain regarding the self-employement avenues of Gaddis which are beautifully and comprehensively elobrated and deserve to be reflected in the main web-page of Gabdika under occupation category….. if, the Gabdika Team so judge…….

Thirdly, I would like to thank my dear Rahul Chadha who have offered a job opportunity above and similar efforts from other representatives are expected….

  69. rajesh barsain Says:

hi, a very warm goodevening to all of you.

today i m disscusing about the education among gaddis, education is the powerfull wapon for every coumminity, state, nation and world it provide the upliftment in consolidate manner .
As shepherding is one of the old profession of the world and we are the one who carry this profession in very passionate way and today this profession is in our blood, soul and in our nevers.we have with the different qualities like professionalism, leadership and busniess as i mention ealier in my blog .i will mention why we have these three first one is professionalism ,shephereding is our profession it is almost 600 year back profession when i belive no other profession will take birth, human being struggling for his survival and adopt the nomadic behaviour.

secondly leadership the main work of shepherd is to direct, guide and provide the right direction to his mall(folks) and if we see this sentence in a different angle then we are able to find out that this is the exactly same work of the leader .

thirdly busniess ,no dought about it that we are traditionally busniess man gaddis are doing busniess from there past and still in this present senario our people who have with a excellent mall (focks) are earning good as compaired to goverment employees .

now the question is that if we have that much of capability then where we are lacking and why we are not getting that much of respect in our surrounding and the answer is here
Because still we are lacking in quality education and the persons who acquire a good position in society are not proudly excepted that we are gaddis and they are affaird to delivered this valuable assets of gaddi community to his own childers and this is horible for us . Now i am requesting to all gaddi parents who have a small childrens in there home ,plz deliver these thought to these small upcoming youth of our community that professionalism, leadership and busniess in our blood and we belongs to one of the finest community in the world, boost their inner self confidence encourge them darely and provide them perfect direction and guidance .

after searching for many years in different networking sites i m able to find out our people are there but not join the different gaddi communities why so why we are affaird to accept this truth that we are gaddis . we have to nullify this goust from our heart and
    soul .

another aspect is that providing admission in a good school, fullfill all the requirement of your wards if you think that your responsibility is over than you are wrong ,if you want to prepair them for future compition than your responsibility is not over here you have to put some extra brilliant efforts on your wards by providing them excellent direction and guidance and by understanding their inner feeling like what they have think ,in which field they want to grow and then finally it’s your responsibility which field is best for your ward according to his interest.

finally if we provide the better quality education to our upcoming youth and provide the awarness of our community regarding who we are and but kind of qualities is in our blood than definately we can overcome all the problems .
And i want to suggest one more thing in this gabdika .com there should be a seprate section or link which is avaliable on front page of the site which is sepecially made for education purpose .which provide a necessary infomation regarding education to our upcoming youth.

  70. Anish Sharma Says:

    Dear Friends,
Today I am back from my four days stay at my native place, village Gudeth under P.O Durgathi.
I enjoyed my stay there with my family members. During Navratras I also visited my kuldevi at village Thakula P.O. Durgathi.
My cousine brothers accompnied me during this visit.
Though I have reached Chamba today, but my heart is there at Gadheran.
It is very painfull for me to leave all my people there.

During my visit to my native place I found that the construction work was in full swing at various hydro project sites of Chamera -III and of various other mini hydel projects on the way to Bharmour. The condition of roads was very bad. There was lots of dust on the road. The companies involved in various construction works are totally ignoring the norms set for occupational health and safety hazards and people living in that area.
Our people are not well aware and they are eating tonnes of dust every day.
The houses on the road side are covered with dust.

These days the gossiping of upcoming Panchyat Elections is on. People are enjoying chat over it on the benches of the famous tea stalls or karyana shops of the area.

I have also seen the primary schools without teachers. I feel very bad when compare them with the students studying in public schools. People told me of vacant seats of the teachers in the schools.

I observed some local teachers for not taking any pain in teaching of their own community people. Which is quite pathetic.

Young and unemployed generation wants employment in the hydel project companies, but it is not easy as the firms want relevant experience and in which our youngsters are lagging.

I also saw people enjoying therir rerpectfull social status there, but their number was very less , hardly 2% of the total gaddi population. The number of needy and helpless is more and beyond my counting.

The visit in a nut shell was quite painfull.

Dear Jasbir it gives imminent pleasure when i hear about the promotional activities carried out for the upliftment of our neglected tribe…… the cultural programme will surely throw a light on the life style, customs, cultures etc of the Gaddi community…….. such programme will also highlight the problems being faced by this section of the society and can bring in the purview of the governing bodies………. such programmes also mark the presence of such a neglected community in the society and Govt………….

Well, since you are a part of said programme that is highly appreciable and it is suggested to visit the website http://www.gabdika.com which has information exclusively about the tradition, customs, rituals, culture etc. of the Gaddis…… I think there is no better manual or source than gabdika.com which can help you in better way……….

“A very long time back, I was very much surprised that the Gaddis of J&K were very much interested in associating with our Gaddi Samiti in Delhi. I have tried to contact them and sent some of them invitation to participate in our cultural events at Delhi. They still enjoy the same enthuaisim and eagerness to associate themselves with Gaddis populace elsewhere.

They really deserve appreciation. They are most welcome. Kindly keep interacting and share about culture, customs and other rituals.”

Our dreams span from joining the community, protecting and preserving our valuable cultural heratage to set up modern gabdika cities at several locations of gaddi residing areas. we are aware that all this may not be possible in our life time but surely it will happen one day.

  105. sonali Says:

I Think its good But in prize we have need to give some good books not money…

  106. S.P.Singh (Bhadarwah) Says:

Dear Sonali, Whatever you proposed was good but please keep in mind that your views should have a wide implication. It should not be restricted upto some region only. If I am not mistaken, it appears that you have named the villages of your interest or may be your native villages. We expect your universal approach. We should do something that can benefit our Gaddi community nationally or we can say here globally. Your posted comments, in this hi-tech era, are accessed globally and can considerably impact the minds of site visitors and consequently can lead to yielding fruitful results.

Respected Rattan Pahl jee, I request you to always stay in touch on weblog as your views and comments always give some thing that the community members consider worthy’s to think over and absence of such our patrons results into loss of enthusiasm. During the last couple of months, I observed that our community members stopped posting their comments. This, I guess was because of the fact that there was none to raise the issue or make a point. Now I hope your initiative will be appreciated and responded largerly.

Further Sonali has rightly said that prizes should not be money. But I would like to add here more. PLEASE ALLOW ME TO MAKE A SUGGESTION RATHER RECOMMENDATION THAT PRIZES SHOULD BE IN THE SHAPE OF “CERTIFICATE”, “COMMENDATION”, “MEMENTO” or SOMETHING THAT MAY HAVE ITS OWN DISTINCTION AND WHICH CAN BE IDENTIFIED AND REMEMBERED AS A SYMBOL OF ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Feedback over the recommendation shall be highly appreciated as the same will help in taking a plausible decision by the concerned.

    Thanks and regards.

    S.P.Singh, from Bhadarwah (J&K)

  107. Ratan Pahl Says:

    Dear Gabdiks

What has been declared can not be withdrawn or changed.
As suggested by Sonali, books can be awarded in next round.
We may however add something like commendations, certificates, momentoes recommended by S P Singh Bhadarwahi. All these need finances, which we contribute from our own salaries.
Further, as advised by Mr Ajai regarding other topics, there are hundreds of such topics. But let us go one by one. Do not club so many issues. Let us concentrate on something serious.

    Ratan Pahl

  114. RAJESH BARSAIN Says:

happy independence day to all of you
we are celebrating the 64th independence day of india ,slow and steady we move towards the new horizons and make our presence in front of this competitary world.
today we are celebrating our 64th independence day ,we are living in a democracy and everybody in this country are independent and have some specific rights and as per as our community is concern, we people (gaddi) direcetly or indirectly play a vital role in this independence process.
by profession (shepherding) we bears nomadic character and free to move any where . we are very nearer to nature and that is one of the strongest reson of our downess to earth . if we are talking about our national flag the basic idea was came from charkha and we wiedly use it and his application it’s really a symbol of national integartion.
if somebody make a deep analysation of our community than he will came to know that we people have with great potential and we have with the great resources as i disscuss earliar but when it come to our self respect ,dignity, honor and pride in himachal no other community will accept as and this should not be tolrated at any cost.
we prove ourself in different areas but still we have to go a long way and create the drastic changes .this time we need desperately more IAS’s,IIM’s,IIT’s,AIMMS’s,HAS,s and for this we need to provide a proper direction and guidance to our youth from our beloved onces.
It,s a time to take a charge from the people of the gaddi community who already make there successfull career in different fields to come forward ,conduct a seminars on different locations ,provides the facts which we need desperately ,engage dierectly or indirectly with our youth and provide the best path .
We people know how many twenties makes a hunderds but still the commenting from the other communities are pathatic somewhere we are not confident in our approch and our actions are not in proper controll .so we need to eradicate all such sort of illusions and make our powerfull presence in front of the world than and only than people will going to respect us apart from this we need also great sports man ,think tankers ,leaders, analysts and many more.
we need the consolidate efforts from our community people and yes if we can take the appropriate initiatives nobody can stop us and make sure that when we celebrate our next 65th independence day we should overtake most of our barriers and move towards the new horizons and earn respect, dignity ,pride and hounour for our community.

Being a Researcher and working in the High Altitudes area of Himachal Pradesh I always met with many of our Gaddis and share their problem and alwyas spend some times with them. From my openion they are the scientists of these areas who know the issues at grassroot level and living in the very difficult and hard life. Thanks to the Gabdika Team Who have taken initiative to start the blog and website site on the gaddis community and develop a common platform to share issues and unite our community people.

    Good wishes

  126. S.P.Singh Says:

    Ram Ram to all Gabdiks,

Miss Sonali has rightly pointed out herein above. In fact this question pounded in at several occasions in my mind and i think this is the right time to make a request to Gabdika team that a unique LOGO depicting the identity of Gaddi Community, culture, customs must be placed on the web and blog as well. For this an e-contest (credit based without monetary involvement) can be organized and entries can be solicited from the members. The logo judged or suited best after thorough consideration be declared and nominated for placement. It is pertinent to mention here that the credit of creation of said unique logo be given properly to the creator on the site and blog. I hope my suggestion will find value for favourable consideration at the moderator end/Gabdika Team.

    Thanks and regards.

  128. Pradhan Singh Says:

Thanks Ajit Bhai, Mr. Kishor, Mr. Sunil, Mr. Nabeel, Mr. Rahul Dev for your kind words of encouragements and greetings to our community fellows.

Thanks Rattan Bhai for useful information on Gaddi CD on our Virasat. It is excellant work on our culture. Congratulations to the Team behind this work. We will soon find some of these video/ audio in our site.

Mr. Rajesh Bersain has deeply analysed our cultural values and suggested to break free from illusion and come up high in career and life. He suggested proper guidance to our youths so that they may get through IAS, IIM, IIT who may further lead to our people

Munish Kapoor has kindly offered our engineering fellows who are seeking career in Public sector.

Dr Sanjeev who is very close to our core community in high hills said that gaddies are the “Scientists of their own kind”.

Miss Sonali Kapoor has rightly pointed out special positions to members and also a LOGO for gabdika and how this can be done is appropriately suggested by Mr. S.P Singh.

  129. Pradhan Singh Says:

further Mr Sunil has came out with an idea to reward excellant developmental work at the gaddi dominated panchayat level. We may think to launch a reward either in monetary form or non monetary form to those panchayat leaders who did extraordinary works to uplifts the down trodden in thier area. I propose that we invite both.

    1. Nominations for this award
    3. Sponsorship for this award

Both the awardee and sponsoring individual or organisation will be recorded and given due recognition on gabdika site .

    Thanks & Regards

  130. Sonali Kapoor Says:

    Dear Gabhidika Team,

Let me first thank-you all for all your suggestions for all these days that we were discussing about Gabdika community. But I feel its is really unfortunate that by the end of the day we are all “men of words rather of deeds”. We are all suggesting to each other about the way things should be instead of making things happen. I feel that this blog is all about making our fellow brothers aware of our community rather than monetary gains through these competitions and contests. It is appreciation and not money which matters to the new generation. So let us all unite & resolve today that we will take up one issue at a time and FINISH it within a month like for example this contest which is on now. We will take the issue of the logo designing in the month of october.

    With due regards
    Sonali

  147. S.P.Singh Says:

    Ram Ram to all Gabdiks..

Dear Sonali it felt great to know that you are going to organizing some competitions in native villages. All the best for your initiative. After concluding the competition, do update the community members through this weblog regarding the feedback and achievements of the said competition.

Dear Shandansheel, please do keep the issue of logo for community website on hold as at present there is other issue being considered by the moderators which is “Origin of Gaddis and work Gaddi”.
There are numerous issues which we all want to achieve but in phased manner and let us go for the same one by one. Do not club so many issues as this will result into imperfect output.

The detailed deliberation and thorough considerations can only lead us towards perfection. Here all of us are together for joint approach and should represent Gaddi community jointly. Let all of us concentrate over one issue and then other. Let the moderators invite entries over the logo at the appropriate time and then we must contribute our suggestions.

    Thanks and Regards.

  150. Harnam Says:

discuss only the matter related to community, not personal

  151. S.P.Singh Says:

Dear Sonali, this is your personal perspective of thinking. I think my comment was not too bad to hurt somebody. Read and analyze the comment once again and you will find good stuff of encouragement. I have received good feedback and appreciation from the moderators so for and I can’t understand your irrational behavior towards me and my comments. You better can explain the reasons. We are here to discuss the community issues and it doesn’t mean that discussion should be held the way you like. Every one is free to raise the issue and suggest measures according to his opinion. May be you only found that my comments are critical in nature but you know criticism is always good and necessary for healthy growth.

Like other Gaddi fellows Chandan is also like my brother. I do care about the feelings of others. Check out the blog and you will find that dear Chandan has taken my comment optimistically and has not caused any hurt to him rather he assured his improvement though my comment is of universal nature and was not directed only to him. Besides, I have the flexibility to make a choice of good and bad that is why I find the words of our Patrons and moderators very precious. Similarly my above particular comment has the reference to comment of our Patron respected Sh. Rattan Pahl jee who advised us to discuss the issues one by one and I thought of passing those words to dear Chandan as well. It appears that you took the comment in person and so you reacted irrationally.

Further, dear Harnam has rightly said above that we should discuss the community related issues and not personal. This comment has also a degree of criticism and is good for improvement otherwise this site will be recognized as family or relative site. It doesn’t mean that dear Harnam’s comment is directed for hurting somebody’s sentiments.

In fact, my comment has no such contents which might have hurt somebody, but your response/comment has really broken my heart and soul and has put a question mark on my dignity by fingering towards me as egoistic. On the one hand you talk of encouragement while on the other hand you demoralized me badly which can affect my interest and contribution towards my daily visiting site/webblog.

    Regards!

  152. chandansheel kapoor Says:

    Dear Mr.Harnam
I am apologising for my mistake and in future i dont discuss the personal things and i am agreed with you. Mr.S.P Singh well said that this blog/site is for discussing matter or issues related to our community.
    Dear Mr.S.P Singh
Thanx for your encouragement. Now i am working or studying on Gaddis origin or the origin of gaddi language. One more tym THANX..
    regards!!

  153. sonali Says:

    Dear S.P Singh,

Thanks for this comments. Bt for your kind information me n Chandan are working on the certificate & invitation letter. The Logo which we are discussing is meant for the certificates & not for website. I already had a word with Pradhan n Rattan Bhiya. Our Logo competition will start in October and the result will be declared in Dec. I have to make the certificate for ongoing competition in Oct.. When our permanent logo will be come than we can change it, it is as simple as that. I would appreciate if u could rather provide a sample/ artwork rather than unnecessary long comments. Any contribution from ur side like certificate formats /designs would be appreciated.

Secondly if U think I broken your Heart N Soul Ok i Did. I am doing this agin if anyone comment wrong. And your comment is wrong. we are doing work in other project n you thought we made logo please read all the blog careully before comment on that.

    Thanks

  154. sonali Says:

    Dear Chandan,
Thanks for that picture i ues it . Which certificate u send me it not opened can u tell me which version you used , write your phone number .

    Thanks

  157. Pradhan Singh Says:

    Dear Gabdika Family Members,

Differences of opinion is integral part of a Family. Gaddika is a family in the making.

We have a common opinion that we should only discuss the community related issues and as far as possible we may avoid making any one to one comments in our blog. If there is no other available mode to communicate with other members of gabdika I do feel this weblog can be used as a last resort.

Let us not be very hardcore, I repeat let us not be very hardcore. Flexibility will make us more creative and help us to design gabdika as a more potent tool to engineer development of our community.

After reading between the lines of the views expressed above it is observed that no one has the intention to hurt anybody. It is the english language that has caused the communication gap and done the damage. There is a mutual respect for the feelings and self esteem of each other family members even though language does not always communicate the true feelings

Miss Sonali is a gem of our community. Only female member actively participating and expressing her views without fear or favour.

Your excitement and enthusiam is praiseworthy.

Mr.S P Singh is one of the elder and respected members of our family and a guiding spirit in gabdika initiative associated with us since long. He is also the voice of our community at Jammu.

You are very precious to us.

May We request both of you to shake hands and rededicate ourself for our common cause. We all are here for common cause and we have no personal agenda or motive for being here. Common interest can be better served if we move together happily.

    Regards,
    Team Gabdika

  158. S.P.Singh Says:

    Respected Pradhan Jee,

Thanks for timely intervention, otherwise the second part of Miss Sonali’s comment dated:14.09.2010 is an intentional misconduct itself which would have invited the endless unnecessary comments and arguments from other readers as well.

But it is wise not to make the issue and posting further arguments over the comment despite your intervention will be a great disregard to you which I cannot afford. Withstanding your valuable consoling words, I put the discussion to an end.

Further, I would pertinently like to mention here that Gaddis are widely recognized for being so polite and well-mannered. Hardcore and affront is not the character of a Gaddi. Our effort will be worthless if we deviate from our basic character. We should get together here for cooperation and not differences. Compulsion and forcing leads to wrath and not growth and development. So better for us to concentrate over the welfare issues of community with mutual respect for each others feelings as rightly envisaged by dearest Pradhan Jee.

    Thanks!!

  159. sonali Says:

    Dear Pradhan Bhiya,

The Character of a community is defined by its members ….there is no doubt about that. But I would also like to say that unlike inanimate objects people tend to change. A behavior once considered deviant becomes a way of life after a while. Being polite and well mannered is good but we are living in the new age where we have to fight for our right. Through this blog, all I wanted was to raise my voice and to bring about a change. Being the only female active member of this community, I think all of you should have encouraged me so that other girls from our community would have come out of their shadows but unfortunately that is not the case here.

….and with these words i say good bye to this blog.

    Sonali Kapoor

  160. Rahul Kumar Says:

    Dear All,

Please be guided by the development planned to be executed in Kugti area of Bharmour.
I would like your views to know how beneficial this projects gonna be for Bharmour region?

The news article goes as :-

Road through Kugti Pass to cut distance to Leh

Manali: Tourists bound for Lahaul and Army would benefit a lot with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) mulling the idea of having direct road connectivity between Pathankot and Lahaul to reduce the distance by another 150 km to 650 km. Already BRO officials have conducted the survey to check the feasibility.
The proposed road will connect Pathankot with Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh through Kugti Pass located on one side of Manimahesh lake in Bharmour area of Chamba district and will join the main national highway-21 at Tandi bridge on the confluence of Chandra and Bhaga rivers. Initial investigation over construction of this road has been completed and report has been sent to BRO headquarter in Delhi.
Already the proposed two tunnels at Rohtang Pass and Shinkula Pass are going to cut short the distance between Manali and Leh by 100 km. Work on one of them is on, while survey for the other has been completed and road construction on both sides is on the verge of completion.
The proposed road will be of strategic importance as Army vehicles carrying essential supplies to Ladakh region will not have to cover districts like Kangra, Mandi and Kullu to reach Lahaul-Spiti.
“If the survey is approved then we are going to construct this road,” said Surender Kumar Doon, Commander, 38 BRTF of BRO. Some tunnels, too, will have to be constructed for the road, he added.
Interestingly, shepherds from Bharmour region are currently using this proposed new route since ages to reach Goshal village of Lahaul region. Kugti Pass is a famous trek route, which attracts thousand of tourists. Approximate 60 km trek of Lahaul-Manimahesh takes three days to complete.

P.S :- The info has been submitted by our fellow Gabdika representative Sh. Sanjay bhai.

    Thanks

But I have and the community have started loosing someone. We have put tremendous efforts to get the opeople at a plateform like Gaddi blog. Please do not hurt any one. Do not indulge in one to one arguments. Avoid to discuss persnal views in open plateforms. Better to discuss persnal things/issues on emailIDs. The difference of opinion may result to disintegration whereas our aim is to integrate.

The unemployment allowance will help them to enhance their educational qualifications and skills which will ultimately enable them to get employment in gainful area. At present, the Govt. has relaxed certain more conditions in order to cover more persons and hence more youths are going to be benefited by this scheme. The youths in far-flung areas needs awareness and proper guidance which is expected from every educated Gaddi volunteer devoted towards the upliftment of Gaddi Community. Dear Mr Rahul

Thanks for sharing this info with all the representatives.

The linking of leh through 3rd road through Kugti pass ( Rohtang from manali and Zozila from kashmir being the ist and second) will surely give a shorter road connectivity to Lahul and Leh. It will also boost tourism and bring about economic development of far flung areas mostly inhabited by gaddies. Of course there are serious environmental issues but road link to Lahul via Kugti will be helpful to develop these areas. Present day govts are also much concerned about the enviorments and we hope there will be a proper environmental impact assessment and its scrupulous implementations on the ground.

  172. Pradhan Says:

    Dear Gabdika representatives,

  177. Rahul Dev Says:

Good evening to all of gaddi bhai’s and Friends. I would like to thanks to all of gabdika team member’s who started this site for sharing the view’s of every gaddi person.

  178. S.P.Singh Says:

    Ram Ram to all Gabdiks!

I think, the golden spell is on for the opportunist as various jobs are on offer in the Banking sector for the eligible candidates. Hence the eligible Gaddi fellows should also avail the benefit of such opportunities as absorption of one Gaddi in one sector and the other in second will slowly n slowly lead towards the prosperity of community as a whole.

The backlog quota as quoted above by dear Pradhan jee is one such opportunity for our Gaddi eligible fellows where the plus point, I think, is that the Exam Center will be at Shimla and Palampur as well, which means the affordability will hardly matter for the aspirants.

Secondly, the Positions of Clerical Cadre in Associates Bank of SBI are also on offer where as much as 497-position meant for ST in various Associates Bank of SBI of Clerical cadre are on offer. Last Date for on-line registration is 01.11.2010. For further details please logon http://www.sbi.co.in.

Further, the job of Banking Associates in J&K Bank meant for state subjects of J&K only are also on offer. The graduate eligible candidates of ST category of J&K only can apply for the said positions. Hope the Gaddi fellows shall mark their presence in the J&K Bank by successfully qualifying the competitive exams. For further detail contact the designated Bank Branches of J&K Bank or logon to official webiste of said bank http://www.jkbank.net.

I would like to add here that in our joint efforts, what we need is to give a wider publicity in our native places of habitation / villages for the benefit of our educated unemployed youths, which I think is not difficult in modern era where a single tele-call from the source can lead to quite large publicity. The awareness and publicity from mouth to mouth and person to person can yield fruitful results in this regard.

So all the Gabdiks are requested to contribute their efforts for expansion of information to the deserving community members living in far-off places where means of on-line system (currently in vogue in Bank sector) are beyond their imagination or reach. A single effort can significantly benefit the deserving one.

    Thanks & Regards!

    The Shepherd as Leader
    The Lord is my shepherd.
There seems to be no end of books for aspiring leaders. Hundreds
of new titles hit bookstores each month, and it seems as though
one in ten has the word leadership somewhere in the title. This torrent
of books brings with it at least one bit of good news: It suggests
that it’s possible to learn how to be a better leader. We hope
to help you become a new kind of leader by offering you a new
image of leadership—the leader as shepherd.
The modern leader does not lack for leadership images. We’ve
heard the leader described as coach, cheerleader, mentor, artist,
cowboy, conductor, guide, explorer, and philosopher, to name just
a few. Two of the most popular images of leadership we know seem
contradictory: leader as servant and leader as soldier. What gives us
the right to add shepherd leader on top of this stack? After all, most
people think of shepherds as either gentle young men gird in flowing
    robes or—worse yet—“Little Bo Peep.”
Our confidence in presenting the leader as shepherd is grounded
in three observations. First, the general impression of shepherds as
gentle people in lush green pastures is inadequate at best and misguided
at worst. Shepherds might be gentle, but they’re also tough
as nails. If you have see Michelangelo’s famous sculpture of David
in Florence, you know the Psalmist as a man of great strength.
Second, we think the shepherd image offers a fuller picture of
the life of a leader than many others. It’s not that these other depictions
are necessarily wrong, but we find them incomplete. Third,

    2 SHEPHERD LEADERSHIP
our image of the shepherd leader is grounded in and inspired by one
of the greatest texts of all time: the Twenty-Third Psalm.
Psalm 23 is one of the best-known passages in the Bible. Almost
everyone can quote sections of this familiar psalm due to its common
usage during times of tragedy and crisis. Psalm 23 has achieved
this popularity because it is both a great poem and a sacred text. As
great poetry, it gives us the powerful image of a vulnerable sheep
protected by a strong, loving shepherd. As a sacred text, it reminds
us that there is much beyond ourselves of which to be in awe.
Although it is traditionally known as a psalm of comfort, Psalm 23
could also enjoy a very different reputation as a psalm of empowerment
for leaders. In fact, we want to show you how to read
Psalm 23 as a poem about great leadership written from the perspective
    of a very satisfied follower.
King David,* one of Israel’s greatest leaders, wrote Psalm 23.
Before he became king of Israel, however, David was a shepherd. In
our modern age, we romanticize shepherding as a calm, peaceful
activity. David, however, would have disagreed with this oversimplification.
For him, shepherding was a dangerous, demanding,
round-the-clock kind of job. Shepherding was also a business, and
bad shepherding could ruin a family’s welfare if the quality of the
sheep’s meat, wool, skin, or milk diminished. When viewed from
this perspective, David’s poem about shepherding might seem more
    relevant to twenty-first-century business leaders.
With this new outlook in mind, read Psalm 23 again seeking to
understand it as a follower reflecting on his or her leader. Although
you might know the Psalm quite well, our hope is that you’re reading
it now as though for the first time. Note the satisfaction in the
voice of the follower. Hear the admiration the follower has for the
leader. If your followers wrote a poem about you, what would it say?
*You will find two Davids populating this book. David, king of Israel, will most often be
referred to as “the Psalmist David.” David Davenport, past president of Pepperdine University,
will be referred to as simply “David.”

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
    He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
    He leadeth me beside the still waters;
    He restoreth my soul.
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil, for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
    Thou anointest my head with oil;
    My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
The rest of this book is devoted to exploring the wisdom of this
psalm. Every line of this sacred text can unlock new and unexpected
insight on the leadership role. Before we do that, we’ll give
you a clear idea of what makes a shepherd leader different.
    Shepherd Leadership in Context
Much of our current leadership thinking and practice is rooted in
the Industrial Age, and for good reason. The demands placed on us
by the technological innovations fueling the Industrial Age required
a new kind of leadership, and management gurus responded
splendidly. Pioneering thinkers like Frederick Taylor, father of
    scientific management, gave America’s leaders a task-oriented,
machine-centered model, and the resulting productivity leaps were
exponential. Administrative innovators like General Motors’
Alfred Sloan perfected the multidivisional organization allowing
profit-driven companies to achieve unprecedented levels of scale
and scope. The new leadership paradigms of the Industrial Age
worked wonders for almost three-quarters of a century before cracks
    started to appear.

    THE SHEPHERD AS LEADER 3
Despite increasing levels of both influence and affluence, critics
began labeling the leadership spawned by the Industrial Age as
“dehumanizing,” “mechanistic,” and “shortsighted.” One of the
most influential of these voices was that of Robert Greenleaf. He
responded to the problems of the Industrial Age with the idea of
servant leadership in his now classic essay “The Servant as Leader.”
In this and other writings, Greenleaf makes a persuasive case for the
necessity of a humane servant leader in building effective organizations
and societies. People quickly recognized the wisdom of Greenleaf’s
writings, and the leader-as-servant image was broadly adopted
as a possible cure for the ills of the Industrial Age paradigm.
Greenleaf found insight by turning the hierarchy of the Industrial
Age upside down. His achievement should not surprise us since
he followed one of the classic creativity techniques: reverse what
you’re doing and look for insight. For example, instead of asking,
“How can we make the best cup of coffee in the world?” ask “How
can we make the worst cup of coffee in the world?” Or instead of
asking, “How can we decrease our turnover rates?” ask “How can we
triple our turnover rates?” He simply asked, “What if someone
chose to be a servant first and then to be a leader?”
We agree with much of Greenleaf’s insights. Servant leadership
started us down an important road, but we believe that servant
leadership didn’t go far enough. Our own search for inspiration
regarding new leadership models involved our reversing the timeline
of history rather than the hierarchy of the organization. With
Psalm 23 as our guide, we circled back around to the Agrarian Age
and found a surprisingly useful model—the leader as shepherd.
In Psalm 23, the leader is a highly visible shepherd who performs
the servant’s work and then some. Like servants, shepherds
care for the needs of their sheep in what often seems to be a oneway
relationship. Should the shepherd abdicate the servant role,
the flock would quickly fall into trouble, as sheep are not known for
their ability to care for their own needs. Sheep need a servant leader
to find them food and water, bind their wounds, and even carry
them when the going gets tough. Make no mistake, there’s plenty

    4 SHEPHERD LEADERSHIP
of serving in the shepherd role. Yet if shepherds were only servants,
the flock would quickly find itself in trouble.
Whereas servant leadership downplays hierarchy and status differences,
shepherd leadership places the leader squarely at the front
of the followers to serve as a role model. Maggie Lena Walker was
born during Reconstruction in 1867 when African American
women often found themselves working as household servants. As
a member of the first generation of African Americans born into
freedom, Walker chose the path of the shepherd leader rather than
the role of servant. At age thirty-two, the deeply religious Walker
took over an ailing insurance company with $40 in the bank and
debts of over $400 and transformed it into a highly successful enterprise
with a $70,000 cash reserve and over 100,000 members,
    mostly minorities.
Before she died in 1934, Walker founded a bank, a newspaper,
and a department store—all catering to the African American
community in Richmond, Virginia. Her bank provided financing
for homes in the black community and loans for minority-owned
businesses. A revolutionary accomplishment in her day, the department
store was owned by black entrepreneurs, staffed by black employees,
and catered to black consumers. As a shepherd leader,
Walker visibly stepped out in front, found a better path, and met
the needs of her followers, never being so far out in front that she
could not come alongside. Like Walker, leaders become shepherds
when they awaken to the reality that their actions and decisions
can improve the quality of their followers’ lives forever.
    What Is a Shepherd Leader?
Shepherd leadership is whole-person leadership. It’s not just a matter
of thinking in a certain way or doing things in a certain way. It’s
a fully integrated life—a matter of head and hand and heart. We like
to say that it’s a way of thinking and doing and being.
First of all, shepherd leadership is a way of thinking. In the field,
sheep are not famous for their strategic planning. As far as we know,

    THE SHEPHERD AS LEADER 5
animals do not have the capacity to visualize the future. The shepherd’s
first job in the field is to think and to think ahead. Although
humans have this capacity, we know that not everybody uses it. For
many people, the concerns of day-to-day survival often override any
effort to plan for the future—despite good intentions to the contrary.
This is where shepherd leadership enters the picture.
A shepherd leader is somewhat like a good travel guide. The
dictionary tells us that a guide assists travel in unfamiliar territory
or to an unfamiliar destination by accompanying the traveler. If you
have ever enjoyed touring with a great guide, you know what a
wonderful and enriching experience it can be. Somehow, without
directly trying to control your every move, a good guide nevertheless
empowers you to see more and learn more than would ever be
    possible on your own.
Shepherd leaders are characterized by mental agility. They have
the ability to shift gears from deep reflection to quick thinking and
decision making in a matter of moments. Most people would agree
that good leaders are characterized by both kinds of thinking. Few
understand how quickly actual leaders must shift between these two
modes. The mind of a shepherd leader must always be out ahead,
envisioning the next destination and the best way to get there.
There are green fields and dangerous valleys, and the shepherd must
anticipate both. In various chapters of this book, we will explore
how shepherd leaders lead in right paths, prepare for the worst case,
    and frame a positive future.
Thinking is something a shepherd leader may often do alone.
In contrast, when in the doing mode, the shepherd leader is often
with others. In the field, the shepherd is out among the sheep taking
care of their needs. Likewise, shepherd leaders are busy doing
things for their followers. We see the shepherd leader of Psalm 23
doing something very important for his followers: cultivating abundance.
If an ancient shepherd’s sheep enjoyed a green pasture, it’s
because the shepherd had carved it out of the wilderness. Likewise
when leaders provide an environment of contentment and abun-

    6 SHEPHERD LEADERSHIP
dance, there is far more growth and progress. Shepherd leaders are
also out among their followers, assessing and meeting needs. They
are managing conflict and removing irritants and obstacles. Wherever
    there’s a shepherd, there’s life abundant.
Finally, shepherd leadership is a way of being. In particular, it’s
a way of “being with” the follower. By “being with” we mean going
beyond doing things for the follower or thinking about the follower.
A hallmark of shepherd leadership is both the ability and the willingness
to see life from the perspective of the follower. Psalm 23 is
a powerful demonstration of David’s ability to see life from the perspective
    of a follower.
It would be shortsighted to think of the shepherd-sheep relationship
as a one-sided deal for the shepherd. In reality, the shepherd
and the sheep had a mutually beneficial relationship. The
sheep enjoyed a longer, healthier life under the protection of
the shepherd. Likewise, the shepherd enjoyed a longer, healthier
life because of the sheep, which provided him with a ready source
of warm clothing and relieved him of the obligation to hunt for all
of his food. Historians contend that sheep would have long ago
become extinct had it not been for their willingness to become
domesticated in the care of shepherds. Many ancient civilizations
revolved around the relationship between humans and sheep. In
those days, sheep were not regarded as “dumb animals” but were
    held in very high esteem.
Shepherd leaders are distinctive in that while thinking ahead,
they are very much “with” the sheep. Shepherding is not a remote
form of leadership; it is high touch. Shepherds do not issue a lot
of memos and orders from the corner office; rather, they get out in
the field to model and guide. Chapters on how shepherd leaders are
present with their flock, lead immortals, cultivate loyalty, and
become both leader and follower elaborate on this important
    dimension of leadership.

    Dear Pahl Bhai,
Riverbank will take their own sweet time to come out with the documentary within the broad agenda set by the Govt. Our feedback will surely help them to understand the realities of our culture and then accordingly set a tone for the documentary. Further, Since it is a govt assissted project govt may use the documentary to attract foreign tourists besides giving publicity to our rich cultural heritage.

I do feel that a best documentary on our culture can be filmed only by a gaddi.. but when? is the only question… Hope few of us may come forward and initiate this project. some time in near future.

Thanks Ajay for your sweet words…You are not aloof. A saying that goes
” To build up knowledge one need isolation and to build up the character one need public”. Even if u r aloof use it to build up the knowledge.

i wanna talk abou the documentry, there shud be a reference of “Impact of climate change and global warming”especially on shepherds.we may add the following.
    1)degradation of forests inflicts.
    Displacement of people.
    Habitat loss for the sheep.
No grass present on account of some floods, erosion blah blah…as a repercussion of deforestation.
Gaddis are wholly or partially dependent on sheep directly or indirectly.so harshness of the nature is apparent on sheep and consequently on us the tribal people.
Loss of some animals like leopard, birds, medicinal plants has also adverse effects on us.

GADDI SIPPI OPPOSE PAHARI DEMAND FOR ST
The “ALL J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Association” (GSTWA) in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its state President Prof. B.P Singh Chouhan strongly condemned the demand of pahari speaking people for grant of Scheduled Tribes (ST) status to them merely on the basis of Language and opposed any move by the state government in this regard Prof. Chouhan asserted that articles 16 clause 4 of fundamental rights, constitution of India provides reservation of appointments or posts the under privileged and downtrodden section of the society who are socially, educationally and economically backward and in the opinions of the state are not adequately represented in the series under the state. He said that demand of Pahari for grant of (ST) status to them merely on the basis of language is unconstitutional and unjustified. He further said that ST Status is granted to ethnic groups which constitute homogeneous class with social, educational, and economic backwardness and having their own exclusive language, Culture, and profession.
Chouhan said that 13 ethnic groups including Gujjar-Bakerwal, Gaddi, Sippi, are enjoying ST status in Jammu and Kashmir thus grant ST status to pahari will dilute the reservation

  228. press secretary sanjay Kumar Says:

    Discrimination with Gaddi, Shippi

    Sir,
Gaddi and Shippi are two ethnic tribes inhabiting peripheral and pastoral areas of Jammu region with sheep and goat rearing as their traditional occupation, migrating from hilly and alpine pastures to plains and vice versa depending upon the severity of season and weather condition.
Gaddi, Gujjar, Bakerwal were classed as ‘‘weak and under privileged class’’ on the basis of their identical profession but unfortunately much attention has not been paid for their welfare.
Gaddi, Shippi communities raised their demands at different fora under the banners of Gaddi Sabha, Shippi Sabha, Gaddi/Shippi union and Gaddi/Shippi Tribes Welfare Association. They also carried on several peaceful protests, rallies, demonstrations and conventions but being non-political in nature could not achieve any political mileage and continued to languish without any representation in State Legislature, State Development Boards, Distt Development Boards and Indian Parliament thereby maintaining the social hierarchy intact.
Following are some of the demands :
    * Political Reservation/Nomination of members of Gaddi/Shippi communities to State Legislature and Indian Parliament.
    * Constitution of ‘‘Advisory Board for Development of Gaddi/Shippi” with its members from within the twin communities.
    * Implementation of Tribal Plan in Gaddi/Shippi habitations in full.
*Appointing members of twin communities in other development boards in this state.
    *Scholarship resumption to Gaddi/Shippi students.
    * Hostel facilities for Gaddi/Shippi students.
    * Specific reservation quota under Sub-category ST Gaddi/Shippi ‘‘STGS’’.
    * Inclusion of Gaddi language in 6th schedule for preservation of cultural heritage.
The issues stand discussed with the Union Health Minister G N Azad and the three interlocutors who are on a state visit and it is expected that the two teams will apprise the Central Government of the problems in detail and get the issues resolved on priority.

    Uttam Bhai,

In Gaddi please find what i think of ‘Moo’ and ‘Mae’words used frequently.

Moo – Is generally used for English word ‘me’ or ‘I’.In Hindi can be ‘main’.
Example: ‘Moo bhi sogi gana.’ ‘I too want to come along.’ ‘Main bhi saath chaloonga.’

Mae – Is generally used for English word ‘I’ and ‘myself’. In Hindi can be ‘maine’.
Example: ‘Mae Lahaul heroora ha.’ ‘Myself, have been to Lahaul.’ ‘Maine Lahaul dekha hai.’

Hope this helps. There is another word ‘aun’ again means similar.
Example: ‘Aun bhi Lahaul gichi choora ha’. ‘I too have been to Lahaul’.

Sanjay bhai – find fill in the blank ’1byte’. Vipan bro best wishes to you too!

Congrats and a well deserved thanks to the creator of this web page.
I would like to discuss a problem here…..
@all-The main and root problem in our community is illiteracy. I think we people need to discuss this problem….there are many children who don’t study or can’t study..Education is the basic thing we people need for our development.Half of the members of our gaddi community are illiterate .We should take steps or initiate something to make our community educated enough.then only we can think about others things.Think for a second if we don’t have educated members in our gaddi family then how can we think of development…..
i will make my point clear with an example:-
here we are able to interact with each other because we people are educated enough….
we people are using internet and visiting this GABDIKA site…WHY????
    because we are educated….
    Honestly our people need something….

    Thanks all

  250. Hushiar singh chouhan Says:

I Hushiar singh chouhan. Dear S.P SINGH JI::”rearing ‘sheep’only, not the’goats’ is the traditional profession of gaddis.” rearing goats was the profession of bakerwals but gaddis have borrowed this profession from bakerwals.AS per my knowledge “rearing sheep”& “cultivation/agriculture” r just like the 2 sides of the same coin for gaddis.both these professions r the essential means of livilihood for gaddis.the gaddis weren’t nomadic people but were semi nomadic.Becoz gaddis hav their own land, houses etc.BUT the land in the possession of gaddis weren’t enough for their livilihood.(less land owner bt not land less people)No doubt gaddis were less land owner but they have nt givenup agriculture. Being a less land owner, they have decided 2 promote both thd professions i.e. “Rearing sheep”&” agriculture.” as essential means of their livilihood..”Haunting was another profession” of gaddis ,but,”its only ear say”. At last but nt the least,i request 2 all gaddi bhi don’t leave /forget ur rich & civilised culture & mothe tongue also. Now a days,we should not forget that, gaddis r not behind any indian race 2 join hands in the modern society…jai chandi mata di jia.

  251. Hushiar singh chouhan Says:

Dear gabdika team, So for as the “traditional gaddi songs” r concerned,i think ‘Anchleya’ ,’GOREYA’& ‘behagra’ r the traditional gaddi songs. But now a days such type of songs r not avaliable through out the territory of india.Todays GENERATION is totally unaware about these type of songs, only looking towards & enjoying panjabi, hindi &filmi songs as the source of entertainment.TODAYS GENERATION feel inferiority in their own culture. This is nothing more than the decline of gaddi culture and identity.HOW we can join hands to “preserve, promote and transmit”the gaddi culture, through our traditional folk songs and folk dance like ‘kud.’?plz suggest. Jia shiv shanker, jia ma chandi… Regards . Hushiar singh chouhan(BANI, BASHOLI)

    Dear Barsain,

Thanking you for your continued eagerness to discuss issues and share information of relevance with the community. Recently, I visited my native place in HP. Due to heavy rains in the area, roads are in bad shape, crops are ruined due to storm and continuous rain, destroyed by wild animals like monkeys, swines, bears, dears etc. The remains of the crops are being eaten by birds. The habitat is totally dependent on rationing by civil supply or otherwise.

  268. B.P Singh Chouhan Says:

    Ram Ram to all Gaddis,
As we all know that literacy rate among Gaddis is very very low and I think this is the main hindrance in the development of this community.I think the main reason behind this is that Gaddis inhabit high altitudinal and far flung hilly trrrains where facilities of quality education and other allied facilities are lacking. This is a well acknowledged fact that education is the foundation for the socio-economic development of any community. Gaddis have been conferred with ST status and many schemes for promoting education among STs across the length and breadth of the country have been launched by Ministry of Tribal Affairs GOI, e.g., Post matric Scholarship, Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship for pursuing Research (M.Phil, Ph.D), Aklavya Model Residential School(10+2), ST Hostel Scheme, ST scholarship for professional PG courses etc. We can approach the concerned Ministry in our state so that proposal be submitted to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs(GOI) for availing above listed facilities in our state. This year Jammu and Kashmir state has got one GADDI HOSTEL from central Govt worth Rs. 2 crore exclusively for Gaddi and Sippi tribes. 2 kanal land has already been identified for this purpose at Govt Degree College Udhampur and constructionj work will start soon. 16 crore has also been sanctioned for construction of Aklavya Model Residential School, for which 120 kanal land has been identified at Bhaderwah and furhher process is in the pipeline. All J&K Gaddi Sippi Tribes Welfare Society (Regd.) has made relentless efforts to get these two schemes sanctioned by Central Govt. Proposals have also been sent for ST girls Hostels and for opening the Offsite Campus of “Indira Gandhi National Tribal University , Amarkantak (M.P) at Jammu. Suggestions for promoting education among Gaddis are solicited.
    With warm regards,

    Dear Rajesh

Let us start discussion as no body has been alleged to be writing creative Blog. Why the blog writing is necessary. The writing something creative about history, culture, social issues, progress, employment. A few of us tried to write on some issues even started implementing on the issues discussed there in. Like one of our aim should be to protect the rich cultural heritage known as “Gaadi Viraasat” a reference was made by me just a week before and just prior to my Barsain friend. We spent our hard earned lakhs of rupees, valuable time and produced this VCD to protect, promote and preserve our culture. This is a result of our blog writing, Seminaars and number of social functions organised in the past. No one including you have commented on it in favour or otherwise. This is our state of affairs.

I am sorry as to why and what you want to write blog?

Do,nt take otherwise. I have earlier also informed about the VCD. You are perhaps new. Though this will not deter us in producing another VCD on Gaddi culture.

Yes, its shocking. As I think, we lost Dharamshala seat due to following reasons:
    i) Less education of our candidate no. 1
ii) deceiving past of our candidate no.1
iii) Egoism of our candidate no. 1,
    iv) over confidence
    v) over and above foolishness of one’s mindset
vi) No doubt, there is no major role of our fellows
vii) but we have to think over
    viii) Go visit and fight

We have never retained the seat of Palampur. The candidate who lost 5 elections in Baijnath and won only 2, once V P Singh wave and secondly by- election. Unfortunately, never completed five year term dared to fight election away from home constituency. Have similar uncharacteristic as narrated above. Dear Mr. Ratan Pahl: KUDOS for your analysis, it may be your perception but this would not be what other Gaddi’s would think or might think. Anyways feedback should always be welcomed.

You can go and ask people who have experienced mortification from other communities for Gaddi’s when we didn’t have any identity. Candidate from D’sala (Dear all pls correct me if i’m wrong) has brought prestige for all.

For your analysis let me enlighten you with the some truthful facts

About Less & more education: It’s not only education which makes you an individual but these are family values that add to your personality.

About deceiving: You might have been deceived but many might have been benefited too, Concerned people sitting in state should analyse this and comeout with facts and figures.

About Egoism: We all have egos. Ego comprises our organsized part of personality structure that can be defensive or perceptual. It acts to the reality principle. There is no harm in being egoistic but only upto threshold above which it is called super ego which should become narcissistic and there are no evidences of self-loved. Mr. Kapoor seems to be very ground to earth person he is easily approachable. I’m sure you can reach him easily than existing elected MLA.

Over confidence: This need more ratification in terms of overconfidence of WHAT. Is it MONEY or something else.
Belief in one’s ability to succeed is required always. People should analyze this seriously.

About blaming: Ofcourse you shouldn’t be blamed for the defeat because you have donated all your young life towards the betterment of this society & since childhood you have been deeply motivated towards amelioration of Gaddi society. Your family has suffered hardships & have bought prestige to Gaddi people.

What I perceive is, Gaddi group has no defined / quantified fundamental values as a group (which are called mores) we are not united.

Alas, There is a famous saying “UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL” and nothing can be greatest example from the defeat of our Gaddi MLA from D/sala where majority of population are Gaddi’s in the area.

If I’m not wrong everyone will appreciate each other if rather than playing a blame game we can ask ourself what & how can I donate towards welfare of society.

    Just quoting few words from
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage — to move in the opposite direction.” ———–”Albert Einstein”

    Regards
    Arvind

Good evening to all of you.this blog get slow day by day ,as i open it daily with euphoria in my mind that something new i found here ,but at the end i found no buddy write anything.

In some previous blogs i read and found that somebody appealing very seriously that don’t go for marriage in other community and i am seriously not agree with him . i am provide my justification given below.
1.Gaddi is the word which internally combine from culture, tradition, courage and friendship. We people are morally ethical and our blood contain the hardiest races qualities ,although some of us think in close minded way ,we should marriage in our community other wise seniour member of our community get angry. I believe there is no harm if somebody choose his or her partner according to combined family approch

2.In this era of development ,we should concentrate on our community development without ignoring our cultural assets. If we found the tremendous potential in term of man and women from other community than why we should not go for that ,why we ignoring the quality, once we found it correct with our community rather we travel on our past of accepting culture of excellent quality.

3.As change drive the world. If i am talking about the ground reality still many reforms we need to lift our community and acceptance of quality people from the other community is one of them.for example many countries hiring brilliant brains from different nations for the development of there on nation than why not us.

4.If somebody going to accept us that means somewhere our level going to match with that particular person and there is no harm to marry with that person.

As mention above all points our community is not harmed from out caste marriages ,but it really harm from below mention points.

1.When successfull gaddi act like that he is not a gaddi
2.when educated gaddi fear from accepting his culture in front of thousands of educated persons from other community.
3.When we can’nt proudly say that we are gaddi.
4.when we does’t take necessary reforms to promote our culture and tradition.
5.when we are not unite .
6.when we involve in useless issues and matters rather than worthful development .

So i believe we should concentrate our overall development with open mind

  336. Som Raj Danar Says:

Dear Barsain I agreed with your ideology, but it is very unfortunate for our community that some educated members of our community using the sir name of other community to hide the word Gaddi. This practice is very much in our state particularly in Bhaderwah tehsil and in your HP mostly people belong to Gaddi community uses the sir name of other community like as Kapoor, Chopra etc. These sir name in fact not in our community. Through the medium of this blog it is my humble request to educated community members that they should not use the sir name of other community to hide the word Gaddi. I belong to far flung area of Tehsil Ramnagar District and belong to Danar which is sub caste of Gaddi Rajput Community and presently putting up at Jammu. My documentary name is Som Raj Danar. My Younger brother is Yoginder Singh Danar he is putting up at Delhi in his own accommodation since 2004, but we never used the sir name of other community like as Chouhan, Katoch, Pathania Chandel like Bhaderwahi etc. I openly challanged these sir names that these are not of our community. I believe in revenue record not hear say. Those who used the sir name of other’s they should go through whether they belong to J&K or HP Family Structure (Shajjra Nasab) in revenue record and should use the real sir name to high light the community among other communities of the society. At the same time people of your State is also using the sir names of other community like as Chopra, Kapoor etc. these sir name are also not belong to our community. I once again request the those community members who use the sir names of other community, if you people really want to help the community in its development then do not use the sir names of other community this practice will work as weed to our community.

Dear Som Raj Danar ji. i posted this blog on 1st of march 2010.i don’t know how many of us agree with this blog but we should think beyond the limits with reliabilty and with genuine approch .

  338. Som Raj Danar Says:

Dear Barsain, as per my knowledge we belong to Rajput clan. The meaning of Rajput is tribal people who have their own tradition, customs and having particular culture. They neither share their culture with other communities nor they like the interference of other communities in their internal cultural set up. As per my knowledge our (Gaddi Rajput) origin is from Gadganga, Rajstan. From there our 1st migration to Himachal Pradesh. Subsequently as community expand then they migrated to J&K to fulfill their grazing needs as our traditional profession is to rearing sheep & goats to earn livelihood. Now some contractor of our community in J&K who have acquired education and got the govt. employment on ST basis are using the surnames of other community and busy in be nighting the illiterate members of the community. I humbly request through this blog to these educated members of the community if u people are real well wisher of the community then do not use the sir names of other community and go through back ground of your own community. Gaddi is not caste it is a profession. Those people who rear sheep & goats to earn their livelihood called Gaddi, so try to call yourself Gaddi Rajput not only Gaddi. Like as Mahajan. In Mahajan Community those community member who adopt shopkeepri to earn their livelihood called Shah or karar. Same the case with Gaddi Rajput. Dear Barsain now I close the discussion and remain in your reply.

  339. Som Raj Danar Says:

Once there was a ardent Bhagat of Lord Shiva, along with it he was a jealous person with others especially with his opponents. One day Lord Shiva became so satisfied with his bhagati and asked the said bhagat that I am very much satisfied with your bhagati and tell me what you want from me in return. I shall give you the same as per your demand but with a condition that I shall give double than you to your opponent/to whom you have jealous with. The said bhagat became sad and thought that the benefit of my bhagati is getting my opponent how it can be possible. The said bhagat analysed the whole situation time and again and becomes serious that if I demand one house from Lord Shiva then my opponent will get two houses as per condition put forth by the Lord Shiva. If I demand one Luxury vehicle then my opponent will get two, if i demand Rs. one crore then my opponent will get two. Ultimately the said comes to this result that he hide his one eye with one hand tries to see with another one. He realized that I can see from one eye like as two eyes. Subsequently he thought that as per condition put forth by the Lord Shiva before me. If I demand from Him that damage my one eye, as per condition He is bound to to damage the two eyes of my opponent so that my opponent becomes blind completely and will not able to do any thing in life. Moral: our community is like a Bhagat of Lord Shiva and to make a loss to others this community never hesitate to make a loss to itself. This is the main cause of backwardness of this community. Through this blog I sincerely appeal to my educated/literate community members especially those educated youth of community who are getting their employment on ST basis help/convince the those community fellow who are illiterate/uneducated towards education and not cornered from them, if your sincerely want to see some reforms in the community.

Thank you Rajeshji & Som Raj ji for enlightened comments. Hope our other community fellow do response with thier own perspectives. Really appreciate much the perspective spelt out by our senior member sh Janak Singh ji. I feel marriage is both a personal as well as community matter. As the community grows & develop, its ethical & normative boundries do expand. I do feel that as a community we should not issue guideline regarding marriege, our only attempt is to provide credible networking plateform to our fellows and urge upon them to look for very sobers, intelligent, modern & educated girls available within our own community. Marriage decision is better left to the individual families to decide. Thanks to the large no of ardent community lovers who bright back the lost pride of gaddies. Today gaddies are recognised with dignity. Our younger generation is feeling proud to be gaddies. Regards, Pradhan Singh, for team gabdika.
